Stunning photographs document the street scenes of Edinburgh in the 1970s.

Edinburgh, situated on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth in Lothian, is Scotland's capital city and one of its 32 council areas. While historically part of Midlothian, known as the "county of Edinburgh" or Edinburghshire until 1947, the city has been independently administered since 1482. It ranks as Scotland's second-most populous city, following Glasgow, and is the seventh-most populous city in the United Kingdom.

Edinburgh boasts national cultural institutions such as the National Museum of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland, and the Scottish National Gallery. The University of Edinburgh, established in 1582 and one of three in the city, is renowned as one of the world's premier research institutions. The city is also famed for hosting the Edinburgh International Festival and the Fringe, the largest annual international arts festival globally.

Among the historic landmarks in Edinburgh are Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, St. Giles, Greyfriars, and Canongate churches, as well as the well-preserved Georgian New Town constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries.

These captivating photos by Hugh McCreadie, captured by Podkin, showcase the street scenes of Edinburgh in the 1970s.
